Care Tips For Your Man Cave's Vintage Neon Beer Sign
If you just bought a vintage beer sign to display in the bar in your man cave, then it is important that you know how to properly care for it. The neon tubes on vintage signs tend to be brittle. If a neon tube on your sign breaks, then your sign will never look the same again because new neon tubes have an entirely different color shade and overall look than vintage tubes. Thankfully, there are many things you can do to ensure that none of the light tubes on your man cave's vintage sign become damaged, including the following:
Never Lift the Sign by Its Light Tubes
When you are unpacking your vintage beer sign, you need to take care to lift it out of the box from the metal parts on the back. You should never handle the light tubes on your sign, and they cannot withstand the weight of you lifting the sign by either their tubes or transformers.
Mount the Neon Sign in an Appropriate Place
Your vintage beer sign should be mounted above your bar in an area that is not easily accessible to people who might want to handle it. Since many people have not had access to a neon sign before, they may want to touch the neon tubes and this can cause them to crack or your sign to fall off of the wall. Mount the sign high on the wall and make sure that its cord is not dangling down where it can become caught on someone's clothing and ripped from the wall.
Gently Clean Your Sign Regularly
If you do not clean your vintage neon sign regularly, then it will become dirty looking and the neon tubes will not shine as bright as they should. Never use chemical cleaners on your vintage sign because they can damage the light tubes and the electrical transformers. Instead, clean the hard-to-reach areas of the sign by unplugging it and brushing off any dirt with a small paintbrush and then wipe the entire sign with a clean, damp, cotton cloth.
Finally, if your man cave's vintage beer sign arrived with a bit of grease or grime on its surface, then you can use a mild soap solution made with dishwashing soap and water to clean it. Following the cleaning with soap water, make sure that you wipe down the sign again with clean water and then dry it completely before you plug it into its power source.
